thunderbird/icons

Hello everyone. I am a newbie to Linux. I am using SUSE 10. I have been able to install RPM packages and tar.gz programs with alot of trail and error. I can now download and install programs pretty good now. My question is can a icon be put on the desktop, rather then go thru the terminal window to run a program.

# ./thunderbird

I notice in TB there is a icon, but I can not figure out how to use it or place it on the it on the desktop. Also can I use or create other icon for my other programs?

Thanks,

You can. What desktop environment are you using?

Right click on your desktop -> Create New -> Link To Application. You will have a little dialogue box where you enter the name of the application, the command to run the application e.g. /opt/thunderbird/thunderbird and select an icon to use for the entry (press the default icon shown on the dialogue box and you will be able to select a different one).
