Thunderbird double click office attachment problem

When I double click a DOC, a PPS, PPT or any "office" format,
my fc7's thunderbird successfully saves the file in /tmp/ , launches openoffice 2.3, which greets me with "/tmp/whatever.pps Filter Selection"
My guesses are that
1) Thunderbird passes some parameter that confuses soffice ,
2) or, thunderbird launches soffice too soon, before /tmp/ file has been saved,
3) something totally different.

Does anyone know why this fails?
Thanks! -t

I don't think it's either of those...

Try saving the attachment to your Desktop or Documents folder. Then start up OpenOffice, and try to open the file from there.

The filter message I think means that OOo is looking for what file converter to use to open the Office file.

Sorry I forgot to mention that. I can open the file just fine by double-clicking it. I can even navigate to /tmp/ and open the temporary file left over from thunderbird!

SOLVED: It turns out Thunderbird opens openoffice 2.3, whereas Gnome opens openoffice 2.2.
And of course, of course, that OO 2.3 could not open those attachments for some reason..

Now deleting both OO's and re-installing it from scratch.
phew!
