Is there a way to shrink a thoggen produced ogg video file?

Gnomebaker is telling me that the drive capacity is 4.38GB. It says the file is 4.46GB.

thanks for your help

You can use mencoder to re-encode the video at a slightly lower resolution to make it fit into a DVD

I use a script I found on the internet to make some videos smaller to put them into my Nokia N95 8GB to play.

Code:
mencoder "$1" -idx -noodml -ofps 24 -vf scale=320:240 -ovc lavc -ffourcc DX50 -srate 44100 -oac mp3lame -lameopts cbr:br=128:mode=0 -o New."$1"
I guess you'd be able to use this little script as a base to modify your file.

any other options?

Thanks for the reply.

One reason I put up with Thoggen's slow speed is that the output quality is outstanding. I've had pretty bad luck with mencoder output quality. That's probably my fault because I don't understand all the flags. I don't even know which codec to use.

I tried streaming the output to a file using VLC (which uses mencoder) and the results were pretty shabby.

If nothing else will work I can use Thoggen again at a slightly lower quality.

Solved

I tried again using VLC. Streaming the output to a file using the highest video bitrate resulted in a very good quality video file.
The size was reduced to 3.8 GB so the problem is solved. This is an excellent solution as I use VLC as my main video player anyway.
