This is a puzzler(er, for me anyway). After I boot up, my gamma is set to the max.

In other words, I see pretty rainblw colors . . . .everywhere! No prob, I go into kde to use the display setup function and change the gamma back. it sticks until I boot again. This starts at the logon screen and extends into whatever WM I am using.

OK. This might be a hint. When I quit a seesion and logout, but not reboot, and just log in again, its fixed. Some sort of runlevel problem?

Yes of course I screw with everything all the time. Yes I do it in small chunks. But I havent logged out for a while so this could have been a prob for at least a week, in which time I'm sure I have changed all sorts of stuff.

What do you think?

If, rather than logging out, you restart X (ctrl+alt+backspace), does it start over?

If so, then it could be something weird with the way X is configured to start; check /etc/X11/xorg.conf

gamma, monitor
