Red face The postgresql data directory content in the pgsql directory is lost (empty data dir)

Hi folks,
I have installed postgres before & eveery thing seemed smooth.

On making a re-installation of postgres the data directory in the pgsql
directory is missing all it's directory content including all those configuration files of postgresql.

I have tried uninstalling & re-installing postgres but all in vain, the dir
content is still missing.
How can i handle this problem guys and what was it's cause.
