The build-in mic of my webcam does not work with Skype (but does respond to checks).

I connected a webcam with build-in microphone through USB to use for video calls, but although the video output is just fine, I can't get the mic to work in Skype (If relevant, my distro is Mint 9 Gnome 32bit). I checked with the volume meter of the PulseAudio Manager, and the microphone is functioning and responding even to low sounds, so it's not a hardware problem. I assume that Skype is not recognising the camera as an audio input device, but I don't know how to change that. In the Sound Devices tab of the Options menu of Skype it states as microphone the "PulseAudio server (local)" and has no other option (similarly at the Video Devices tab it states as only option for webcam the "USB2.0_Camera). Can anyone help me solve this problem?

Go into alsamixer and press F4 for capture and check there.

That might be okay from your info ... also check our HCL and
<Linux> Google like you own it for your particular device.

I don't have alsamixer (strangely enough), Linux Mint 9 Gnome uses PulseAudio. I already solved the problem though, I went to Menu>Preferences>Sound and at the input tab I chose the camera as the device for sound input. Very simple, really...

As a service to others, would you kindly mark your thread as "Solved".
Whoops. I see you've done that. Sorry.
Thanks,
