the best tool to cut video


hello dear friends
i'm looking for the simple way to cut a video in linux

By which you mean crop, edit, or choose frames out of to make a shorter or longer sequence? ffmpeg and avconv are the same thing, but they offer a lot of options, not in editing the individual frames, but in selection and organization of frames. Further, I'm not sure they're good for letting you look at all or large groups of frames on the screen to edit that way; they're more command line tools which allow you selection flexibility.

If you're looking for something containing storyboard features, these tools aren't that.

If you want a GUI program, try OpenShot video editor.

I use openshot for simpler things there is cinelarra for multicam and the like but TBH if you a FCP or Adobe guy none will seem all that logical to you. This is one of those things that could be absolutely great in in Linux but it needs one guy or company to make a really great one and sell it. With FCPX still not gaining traction and the hesitation for those guys to switch to Premiere a pro-level movie cutting solution on Linux I'd think would be an easy sell especially if it was cross compatible with everything else.
