Question Terminal Server Client - 2 questions

I am running Ubuntu 7.10 and have successfully used the Gnome Terminal Server Client v0.148 to connect to 2 Windows XP boxes and a Fedora Core 5 box all running vnc4.x (free version). Works great. The two questions...

Is it possible to save the password for remote computer in the .rdp file for that machine?

What is the "correct" way to disconnect? If I simply close the Terminal Server Client window I get an error dialog offering to reconnect in so many seconds. Not a big deal but not real smooth.

TIA,

Ken

That is the correct way to disconnect, which will allow
you to reconnect later. If you don't need to reconnect,
the best thing is to log out. In either case you'll get
that same dialog.

I created custom launchers for my connections using the
rdesktop program. That allows you to embed a password
if desired and you won't get the dialog when you close
or disconnect the session.

Look at the details in that error dialog by clicking on that little black triangle. You'll probably see some comments about your keyboard map and/or the color depth. The way I solved that was to explicitly set my keyboard map (in Terminal Server Client) to "en-us" in Local Resources and Colors to "16-bit" in Display.

As far as saving the passwords, I'm still working on that too, though I did have success with saving an RDP file from TSC, finding it under ~/.tsclient/<name>.rdp and manually inserting my password in the "password:..." line in there.

Otherwise, you might follow the suggestions of the other poster.

Thanks tgice,

I have discovered that if I select one of the rdp files from the list in the lower left of the Terminal Server Client window - the connection will be made and I do not get the disconnect "error" message when I close the connection. Who knows???
