Terminal emulator for serial connection?

Is there a simple graphical terminal emulator software package available for Linux? I have tried to get minicom to work with no luck. I can get Hyperterminal to work fine from my XP laptop, but I want to be able to get to the console of an STB using my linux machine.

Thanks,

What problems are you having with 'minicom'? Everyone uses minicom - no one seems to have had a particular urge to write something else.

I am duplicating the settings on use on Windows (115K 8N1), but it won't connect. Serial connection is plugged into COM1. The Serial port is enabled in the BIOS. No matter what I change, the status at the bottom says Offline.

[root@srvrtest etc]# dmesg | grep tty
ttyS0 at I/O 0x3f8 (irq = 4) is a 16550A
ttyS1 at I/O 0x2f8 (irq = 3) is a 16550A

[root@srvrtest etc]# setserial -g /dev/ttyS[01]
/dev/ttyS0, UART: 16550A, Port: 0x03f8, IRQ: 4
/dev/ttyS1, UART: 16550A, Port: 0x02f8, IRQ: 3

I have updated inittab.

root 4949 1 0 Sep30 ttyS1 00:00:00 /sbin/agetty -L -f /etc/issueserial 38400 ttyS1 vt100
root 6375 1 0 14:27 ttyS0 00:00:00 /sbin/agetty -L -f /etc/issueserial 115200 ttyS0 vt100

I looked in /var/log/messages and see some of the output I am expecting at the Serial Port along with these messages:

Oct 1 14:47:32 srvrtest login(pam_unix)[6103]: bad username []
Oct 1 14:47:34 srvrtest login[6103]: FAILED LOGIN 3 FROM (null) FOR , Authentication failure
Oct 1 14:47:34 srvrtest login(pam_unix)[6103]: bad username []
Oct 1 14:47:36 srvrtest login[6103]: FAILED LOGIN SESSION FROM (null) FOR , Authentication failure
Oct 1 14:47:38 srvrtest login(pam_unix)[6104]: check pass; user unknown
Oct 1 14:47:38 srvrtest login(pam_unix)[6104]: authentication failure; logname=LOGIN uid=0 euid=0 tty=ttyS0 ruser= rhost=
Oct 1 14:47:40 srvrtest login[6104]: FAILED LOGIN 1 FROM (null) FOR Oct 1 21:47:35:180277 AMINET user.warn syslog: Respawning '/mnt/nv

How do I redirect these to a terminal window or minicom?

Thanks,

I don't understand how you have things set up. What computers are you trying to connect and how are they set up on each side?

Got it working. I had to turn off Hardware and Software flow control and comment out the agetty line for ttyS0 in /etc/inittab. With what I was trying to do, agetty and minicom were conflicting.

The setup is that I have a Linux desktop machine (with a keyboard, mouse, and serial port) and an embedded Linux set top box with a diagnostic serial cable attached. The console messages from the STB are output through the serial cable. Now, with the correct settings, I have console access to the STB using Minicom on the desktop machine.
