Most corporate networks stop desktop machines from making outward connections on anything other than 80 and 443 (to allow for HTTP and HTTP over SSL).
What you can do is set up an SSH server on you home machine and get it to listen on port 443. An SSH connections looks very similar to an SSL connections
I can't give you exact details as I'm not familiar with Mandriva. But you want something like;
1) At home install an SSH server (perhaps openssh-server).
2) Edit the servers config file and change the line
to
While you're here change the line
Code:
PermitRootLogin Yes
to
Always best to be safe. Now restart the ssh server (or the machine if you prefer)
3) If you have a router or firewall at home, make sure port forwarding is on and working for port 443.
4) Stick
putty on your work machine (I'm assuming you're stuck with windows)
5) In the settings for putty, go to the proxy tab and add the name and port number of your
work proxy. Change the proxy type to HTTP.
Now in the session information use you home IP, port 443 and protocol ssh. You should be able to make a connection back to your home machine.
Hope that works for you.
