TCL/TK install

I am using RedHat 9 on my rig and I can't seem to install the TCL/TK on it (always have errors) so I downloaded it and I extracted and followed to README but then when it comes to

make install

it has errors how it can't find files in the folders and it has errors about entering the binaries. Someone told me to do this

./configure
make
su
password:
make install
make clean

when I get to the su part it goes to password but then I can't type in my password!!

PLEASE I NEED HELP!!! (NEWBIE)
