Their homepage is here , there's a download link there too.

Are you sure you're running checkinstall as root? Usually the $ sign is normal user (as in your previous post). su + root passwd

Anyway, you can check if it's installed (if it was installed as a tgz package) like this:
Code:
$ pkginfo checkinstall
Error means it's not installed, no feedback means it's installed.

I thought the pkg tools were installed by default

Well you can use pkgtool to install packages from your cd. You'll need to mount the cd and point pkgtool
to the cd with the "install packages from other directory" option

# pkgtool

I don't know where the packages are on the disk, you'll need to search

one of the easiest ways to get checkinstall would be the following...

Code:
# slackpkg install checkinstall
If you don't have slackpkg, which I would suggest because it makes package installs so nice you can get it here ftp://slackware.cs.utah.edu/pub/slac...xtra/slackpkg/. Hope this helped.

I have pkgtool..and I can separately run upgradepkg, installpkg, etc,
but this pkginfo is not found.
MAN indicates the following:
SEEALSO
makepkg(8), installpkg(8), removepkg(8), explodepkg(8),
pkgtool(8)

I have SW 9.1
