tar: /dev/nst0: Cannot open: No such device


Hi,

I have a Linux red hat 2.1 AS for D.E. when try make to backup with tar -cvf /dev/nst0 tmp

get this error

tar: /dev/nst0: Cannot open: No such device
tar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now

Do you have a /dev/st0?
What type of tape drive do you have installed on this PC?

Can you eloborate further, like error mesages? And the make / model of tape drive?

Hi,

I resolve the problem, remove the file nst0 in the /dev and reboot the machine, and next to startup create the de nst0 again and tape is working now.
