The drive works fine in windows boot, is able to read & write any media.
As soon as I insert any CD/DVD in linux, the system locks up and I am left with resetting the system. Even if I boot the system with any media inside the drive, as soon as it boots, system locks up.
What could be the problem? Please help me to resolve it.
I tried Fedora core 5 & 6, RedHat Linux Enterprise 3 & 4.
Fedora passes the screen of media check and hangs the system with a blue screen filled with odd characters.
RHEL 3 & $ give a peculiar error : "An error has occured - no valid devices were found on which to create new file system, please check your hard drive for the cause of problem". This error comes irrespective of my choosing automatic partition or manual partition and The system reboots !
I have some scientific coeds which have been verified for RedHat only. I prefer either of SuSe or FEdora/RedHat.
what could be the problem with DVD writer? It is installing SuSe linux and then once the system installation is complete, it does not work?
Some forum suggested changing CDROM parameter from 'ATAPI' to 'SCSI simulation' and see whether it works, I don't know how to do it?
