syslog configuration

Hi,

I have a syslog viewer which requires that the log messages be written with the PRI part of the syslog header.

I.E, currently the messages are being written by syslog such as follows:
Jun 19 16:08:40 jade.......

What I need is the following
<110>Jun 19 16:08:40 jade.......

Where <110> is the PRI part of the syslog header. I am using syslogd 1.4.1 which comes with Red Hat EL5. Can anyone tell me how I configure syslog to print the PRI as part of it's messages? Is it even possible?

Thanks,

I looked for a similar answer and found that the standard syslogd gives very few options for customizing how the message is written. I ended up scrapping my search and using syslog-ng which gives a template function that allows you to specify how the log entry is written. But, there are other options like rsyslog and metalog (and probably a lot more I don't mention).
