Sync Kontact with Google Calendar
I have tried various way to make Kontact sync with Google Apps with only varying degrees of success.
I tried using the instructions on http://gcaldaemon.sourceforge.net/usage11.html#p2 but had no luck at all. I also tried using them in conjunction with http://gcaldaemon.sourceforge.net/usage2.html and http://www.terminally-incoherent.com...tact-and-gcal/. Nada...
The closest that I had to success was by using the instructions at http://www.linux.com/archive/feature/122054. It was real close, I was able to see all of my Google calendar items via Kontact but if I added an item in Kontact it would never show up in Google. I also noticed that whenever I tried to create a calendar and save it as an icalendar it always changed to a vcalendar.
Any thoughts?
Thanks

I went ahead and tried again to do it as per the instructions at linux.com since I've gotten further with that than anything else. What I have found is that if I add a item in Kontact, and choose the Google Calendar resource, then it will eventually disappear. If I add an item to my Google Calendar then it will eventually appear on Kontact's calendar. If I remove from Google Calendar then it will eventually remove itself from Kontact's calendar also.
So it seems that the sync is only going from Google to Kontact. Anything added to Kontact (as part of the Google calendar resource, the default calendar is not affected) will, in time, go away.
Any thoughts on what this might be? I really like Kontact, far better than Evolution. I am finally able to use Linux at work and ditch Windows, with the exception of Outlook; if I can get this one last piece solve then I am home free
I appreciate any thoughts or suggestions.
Thanks.

but I have a strange time zone (?) pb:
I use GCalDaemon with the sync-now.sh
as I don’t always have the internet link with my eeePC.
Everything seems right at first:
my google calendar events get correctly on the local copy I use thru Kontact…
BUT after several sync, I noticed that my events are shifting
one our after each sync…
At first I thought I got the time zone incorrectly on eigther
side, but :
I am in France / Paris
and the correct time zone is selected on google and on the eeePC.
The GCalDaemon logs tell about using CET.
And after reflexion, would the problem be that the shift sould occur only one, and since the very first sync.
Any idea ??

I'm not having any issues with time. What does sync on my end syncs correctly as far as time is concerned. I just can't sync from Kontact to Google Calendar, I can only sync from Google Calendar to Kontact. Anyone else have that issue?
Thanks

Sync Kontact with Google Calendar using Akodadi
I have decided to change my strategy and start using Akonadi to sync Kontact with Google Calendar. Mostly it goes rather well. I am having a bit of a problem with akonadi_gcal_resource_0. Things go well with it for a while then I suddenly find that it is saying:
Quote:
|
Not yet authenticated for use of Google Calendar
|
I choose 'modify', enter my Google username and password and hit enter. Nothing happens. I can then remove it, add it back (it's now akonadi_gcal_resource_1), enter my username and password, and it now downloads my Google calendar. It will work for a while, maybe a day, then the same thing happens.
Has anyone else had a problem with it suddenly not authenticating?
Thanks

ok, i ran from a terminal:
Code:
desktop:~$ akonadictl status
Akonadi Control: stopped
Akonadi Server: stopped
then:
Code:
desktop:~/$ akonadictl start
Starting Akonadi Server...
done.
it then proceeded to spit out a bunch of things, including error messages of unknown significance. but going to the system control panel showed akonadi server running. strangely, if i tried to restart the server through the system panel, i still got the authentication message. might have been a fluke though--i'll post back if this is reproducible.

I never did get it to work so I switched over to Evolution as they have a google calendar sync plugin but I am having some issues with that also.
I only wish that my org would drop MS Exchange and go with Google Apps
