Swiftweasel stopped working upon today's xulrunner update

The error I get is:
Code:
/opt/swiftweasel/swiftweasel-3.5.5/swiftweasel-bin:
error while loading shared libraries: libxul.so:
cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
I'm sure it's because libxul.so was located in /usr/lib/xulrunner-1.9.1.5 and now it is in /usr/lib/xulrunner-1.9.1.6

What's the right way to fix this so it won't happen again on the next xulrunner update?

BTW, I'm running Ubuntu 9.04 amd64 and I installed swiftweasel manually (no repo).

That's your problem right there. If swiftweasel is the same thing that was being distributed as swiftfox a few years ago, the only difference to firefox/iceweasel is that some of the default settings have been changed. You would likely do better using your distros version and learning how to configure it.

That's the problem with manually installed stuff: it breaks when things are updated.
Symlink may be a workaround:
Code:
ln -s /usr/lib/xulrunner-1.9.1.6/libxul.so /usr/lib/xulrunner-1.9.1.5/libxul.so
But you have to re-create it on each xulrunner update.

Swiftweasel is not the same as swiftfox or iceweasel. It is an optimized compile of the codebase that runs much faster. It's not just different configuration settings. Firefox on Linux is so slow that I need all the help I can get. It's either Swiftweasel or Chromium, and Chromium just isn't far enough along to be my full-time browser.

I wish I could find a repository that had a maintained version of Swiftweasel...

OK. I guess I'll just have to recreate the links...

Code:
cd /opt/swiftweasel/swiftweasel-3.5.5
rm libxpcom.so
rm libxul.so
ln -s /usr/lib/xulrunner-1.9.1.6/libxul.so libxul.so
ln -s /usr/lib/xulrunner-1.9.1.6/libxpcom.so libxpcom.so

Interesting. What sort of hardware to you have? I've got at 933 MHz Crusoe with 230 MB RAM, and the Debian iceweasel binaries work quite well: not brilliantly snappy, but pretty good.

How is the compilation optimized? Why not apply those patches to the source deb of iceweasel and then you can always have the latest and be sure that that you won't have library problems. I am quite interested in this.

Really, I was under the impression that Chromium required more resources than firefox: I guess I'll have to check it out.

Where are you getting it from?

Cheers,
