suse tools in other distro (yast2 and sax2)

Does anyone know of any work being done to get some of the SuSE tools like yast and sax (x config tool) working on other distros? Both could maybe be the basis for good cross-distro tools.

i read recently that suse (novelle) is developing YAST for other distros...don't know yet when they will release it tho.

The plan is more for Novell (who acquired SuSE) to GPL their YAST tool. The burden of changing it for other distributions rests on the shoulders of those distros' maintainers.

It would be cool to have both tools implemented with no distro specific stuff and then have a backend that is distro specific so that they can be ported to other distros just by replacing the backend stuff.
