Suse Standard Server wont accpet user logins

Hi I am running SUSE standard server 8 and have an expired support package. Thus I have come here for assistance.

The server boots to a graphical login (KDE?) I cannot login as anyone other than root. When I swich shells and try to login via text I also cannot login as anyonw other than root.

Also I just put VSFTP on the server and cannot login as a standard user...or root but thats understandable.

My server is accepting connections through the firewall however it seems that it is not processing logins correctly.

I have delt with mandrake and PAM but I have never used CYRUS before so maybe this is a CYRUS issue?

Please help I can give you more info just tell me what you need.

Cyrus uses its own authentication database based on sasl. You actually need to use the cyradm tool and the sasl tools to create users in cyrus, these are not the same users as on your linux box.

Another question, did you actually create user accounts and if so, did you set an initial password?

You could try setting the password for one of the users using passwd <user> while logged in as root. You should also check if the users have homedirs. If not X will probably not be able to start... And check the permissions to the dirs.

I hope this helps you,
Marcel

Try RH Enterprise 3.0; isn't it supposed to be better? Even for home use I have heard. RH also is easier to configure, IMHO.
