Suse nVidia problem
I decided to reboot my box after a few days, and it returned with a black screen.
Bummer, i thought that was another OS.. After a successful rescue operation, i managed to have KDM vissible again. (phew..) After some digging i narrowed the problem down to the nVidia driver. When i move through Sax2 and test a setting with 3D options on, the same black screen returned. This used to be 'on' but i can't seem to get it back. Also escaping the test mode can only be done with a reboot...where ControlAltBackspace should actualy do the trick. I really need it for my armagetron addiction.. How can i get 3D back on? |
Relating this to recent problem I had.
- What sort of video connection are you using? DVI or analogue (HD15) ? |
hd15 ..with a standard VESA monitor
|
Not quite the same as my problem then.
I lost output on the DVI but HD15 was fine for 3D - still not sorted but OK as is for moment. Have you tried re-installing the drivers manually? |

Its not overly difficult and in my experience is more reliable than Yast.

I'll give it a try tomorow .. when i am sober ;) Cheers :Pengy:

After a kernel update you'll find that a re-install of various apps is highly likely to be required, including nvidia drivers. Still recommend the manual way over Yast, which doesn't always work. |
Found some info: ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/sup...taller-HOWTO#3

After a kernel upgrade I also do the following: In a terminal as root - cd /usr/src/linux - make cloneconfig - make prepare-all - exit Then sort out nvidia, vmware etc I'm not sure if this benefits nvidia but several other apps like this after a new kernel. Good luck |
