Suse Linux 11 and web sites on MS/IIS

Hello all,

I'm a newbie and I'm setting up a Suse V11 KDE linux machine.

I have web sites which I host on an MS/IIS box.

Do I need to load down and configure Apache to serve up the IIS web pages?

How would I go about getting this done.

thanks.

Well, that depends. Are you wanting to move your websites from IIS to Apache? If so, then yes, you'd need to install apache, and whatever modules/code you need to support your web sites.

A good tutorial is here: http://www.susegeek.com/internet-bro...-opensuse-110/

Guides you through installing MySQL, PHP, and Apache (the most common setup). Can't help you with configuring Apache to do what you want, though, since that all depends on your websites.

Thanks for your reply,

No, I want to keey all my web sites on the IIS box and just want to drive the system using Suse.

So, some how I have to direct incoming traffic to the IIS box...still have to find out how to do this.

So does this mean that if the web sites are on the IIS server then Apache isn't needed in the Suse box?

Thanks.

What do you mean by "drive the system using SuSE"? You say direct incoming traffic...you could run Squid (a proxy server package), on SuSE, and use it to redirect incoming http/https requests.

If you're not going to host websites, you don't need a web server, so no, you wouldn't need apache.

What is the role the SuSE box is going to play in your environment? What are you trying to do?
