SuSe installation woes

I am trying to install SuSe 9.0 pro on my Dell x386 2,53 Ghz with 1 gig of Ram, further nothing fancy

Inserting cd 1 in the top cd player, and for good measures cd 2 in the dvd player, 'cause I read that one is bootable too, leads to nothing
Also made a bootfloppy using rawrite and the image in :\boot\bootdisk, but again no joy

With both cd's and the flop at attention booting leads to 1 Linux oritented sentence which disappears too fast to read (something like "syslinux 2.06 ..... by Peter Anvin loading"), and subsequently it falls back to bios and Win XP, on the drive I was trying to install SuSe to, just boots

Yes, my bios gives flop>cd>hd as bootsequence
Yes in any of my other machines it works like a dream, but those are not the machines I want it on
Yes, it's driving me nuts

possibly a dumb question
but
have you tried with just cd 1 on it's own?

Yes :D

Tried them all separately and in every combination you can think of

don't know about suse (though I have suse 9.0 personal)
but on mandrake you can make iso images, copy them to the harddrive and then install from them using a boot floppy

sounds like your bios doesn't consider the suse disk "bootable" change your boot order to cd>cd>cd to force it, if possible.

tried that too, even upgraded the firmware of the cd
