Suse frustrations.
 

I feel like an idiot posting this but I'm not sure what else to do...

I have Suse 9.0 and have really loved it (Lindows sucks but mainly because it is TO user-friendly). Anyway I LOVE Suse so far but I have been trying to install a few semi popular programs that turn into a complete nightmare...

1. VOCP If you haven't heard of it it's voicemail for linux...anyway I download an rpm from rpmsearch (the one that say Mandrake 9.2 or 9.1 since there isn't a Suse designated one) and it launches through Yast... It proceeds to tell me I need all these files...so I download another 20 files and each of those files need another 5 or 6 files!

This goes on like this for 4 or 5 hours and I make a little leeway, then, I get to a file that I cannot find on the net.

2. Mplayer...same thing happens. It took me 2 hours between finding files and installing the files' files!

IS THERE AND EASIER (and I know, lazier) WAY????

I tried to install the apt-get thing for Suse and GUESS WHAT??????? IT NEEDS MORE FILES (a LOT of files!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Please help me. I know what a lot of you are thinking...lazy ass. But the thing is I was an expert Windo$ user and administrator but I am the Forrest Gump of Linux. I want to learn so badly but there is something about command line stuff that makes my eyes glaze over.

SuSE usually installs minimum set of applications. You usually need to add GNOME system and development files (needed for most of mplayer functionality and most of non-KDE applications).

You can usually get missing libraries if you search YAST database. But it is usually reasonable to include in install common development libraries, GTK dev (GNOME) and QT dev (KDE) libraries.
