I have installed Suse 9 twice now (32-bit and 64bit) on my new Athlon 64 box and in both cases the Konqueror Web browser is extremely slow. I use a cable connection to the net and when I use Konqueror it feels more like dial-up. I also use Opera on the same machine and and there is a huge difference in performance between the two. Opera loads in 2-3 seconds what takes Konqueror 30-40 seconds to load. While my experience with Opera on both on Win2K and Linux has always been positive (it is a fastbrowser) I can't help but think that there is something wrong with how Konqueror is configured.
Are you using KDE? If not, that could be why it's taking so long. Most KDE apps need to load additional processes in order to function properly, and these processes are automatically started if you run KDE.
If you don't use KDE I'd suggest not bothering with the bloat that is commonly known as Konqueror.
I am using KDE and Konqueror is still very slow when it come to Web browsing. It works fine as a file manager and launches almost immediately but point it to a URL and its feel like I am conencted through a dial-up line.
Im using SUSE 9.0 and i was having slow internet browsing too. I fixed the problem by turning off ALL proxy settings (i dont even use a proxy! but suse thinks i have to have it set to where i do) that didnt fix it so what i done next was Staticly define an ip for the link between my computer and router. then set the DNS servers as the ones my isp gives me NOT THE ROUTER! and it WORKS!! my guess is my router hates linux or something and DHCP just dont work well between linux and the router
I have also noticed that with SuSE konqueror and mozilla are both slow for me. I just use Opera because it is what I like best. I also like Opera's downlaod manager. Thats just my opion though.

I agree with your opinion of Opera. I think it is the best browser available both on Linux and Windows platforms. On the same machine I reported the slowness of Konqueror Opera runs fast without a problem.
As far as proxy settings, mine are disabled and that didn't make any noticeable difference when it comes to Konqueror. I would like to understand why disabling DHCP and not using the router for DNS calls fixes the performance issue since both Opera and Konqueror use the same network connection (and configuration) with completely different results.
