suse 9.2 gives me a blank screen

okay, I'm a first time linux user recently tried to install suse 9.2. Everything seemed to go fine until the program started to boot for the first time. I got the screen with the lizard that said checking hardware...etc and then the screen goes blank.

Acording to everything I've read I'm supposed to be seeing some sort of desktop with all kinds of great programs ready to use. It's supposed to be even easier to setup than windows xp (which I found very easy). Instead all I get is a blank screen. I restart the system, blank screen, re-install I get a blank screen. Wait half an hour it's still blank.

I even tried to re-install windows XP. The system completely ignored the disk, restarted linux and agains gave me a blank screen. (Yes, I have my cd drive as a default for startup)

Other background. I have an equivilant to a pent III speed processer with 256mb of ram, a 8gb harddrive and a 80 gig D drive.

Can someone help me get this going? If it won't work on my system can someone at least tell me how to take it off and re-install windows?

Thanks

First of all, you can reinstall Windows by getting to a command prompt (slip in your windows cd for this) and typing "fdisk/ mbr" --minus the quotes.

Second, I'm running Suse now. Are you getting any error message at all along the way?

Actually. after ,messing around with it for a few more hours I finally got it to work. I think it either had something to do with the partition settings or the monitor settings (I played around with both).

Now I'm having a HUGE problem with getting anything to install properly, but that's a subject for another thread.

Thanks for your advice on re-installing windows though. It's becoming a MUCH more attractive option now that I've been working for 3 straight hours on installing a codec to play a simple simpons episode and haven't gotten anywhere
