SuSE 8.2: "Unresolved Configuration Files"?
 

Ever since updating from SuSE 8.0 Pro to 8.2 Pro, I get a complaint on boot-up that I have the following "unresolved configuration files":

/etc/cups/client.conf.rpmnew
/etc/cups/cupsd.conf.rpmnew
/etc/cups/printers.conf.rpmnew
/etc/httpd/httpd.conf.rpmnew
/etc/httpd/suse_addmodule.conf.rpmsave
/etc/httpd/suse_loadmodule.conf.rpmsave
/etc/inetd.conf.rpmnew
/etc/init.d/fbset.rpmsave
/etc/init.d/ldap.rpmsave
/etc/init.d/syslog.rpmsave
/etc/init.d/xntpd.rpmsave
/etc/inittab.rpmnew
/etc/mail/submit.cf.rpmnew
/etc/manpath.config.rpmsave
/etc/mime.types.rpmsave
/etc/ntp.conf.rpmnew
/etc/ppp/firewall-standalone.rpmnew
/etc/ppp/pppoe.conf.rpmnew
/etc/samba/smb.conf.rpmnew
/etc/sendmail.cf.rpmnew
/etc/sysconfig/network/config.rpmnew
/etc/syslog.conf.rpmsave
/root/.xinitrc.rpmnew

I am told that I should "check" them, but I have no idea what that means. They contain lots of shell script code, which I can't read very well. I'm hoping I can safely just delete them, or something like that. Yast2 doesn't seem to be able to deal with them, because subsequent small updates haven't fixed the problem, if a problem is what it is.

these are files that RPM has installed. you have, for example, upgraded apache, but you'd probably be pretty pissed if it overwrote your own configuration files... so it calls them .rpmnew so you can manually integrate them. if you do not weant them, delete them.
