SuSe 8.2 RPM's won't install

Hey everyone,
After a while of playing with differant distros I finally found one that i like. SuSe 8.2, I downloaded it and installed with ease. I've got a few minor issues but I'll sort them out one at a time. The one that is annoying me the most is my RPM issue.

Whenever I try to install RPM's, I get the error

'file:/var/lib/rpm/packages.rpm :read only'

I get this error when I try and install ANY RPMs except when I tried to update SuSe from the net I got the error:

'rpm has invalid signature'

This is really frustrating, I deleted windows to force myself to use linux so I can get used to it.. but this is just annoying.

Can anyone please help?

Riceo.

Are you using YAST to install ?
I've got Suse 8.2 and that works fine unless there are dependicy issues.

Sounds like you aren't logged in as root when trying to install the rpms. You can switch to the root account by typing "su" in the terminal.

I realised I was using the liveeval cd meaning that nothing was being put onto my harddrive. I formated for no reason :@

Ah well lol... I'm back in 2k now. Can anyone recommend another good distro? I've tried Debian aswell, and I am not willing to try red hat. :P

Thanks
