Suse 8.0 Browser Configuration
 

This is a strange one - I had to do a clean install of 8.0 having trashed 7.3 which had been updated to 8.0. 7.3 used Netscape or whatever I wanted to use. The update to 8.0 produced the same result - all went well. Now, I did a clean install of 8.0, configured the modem and ISP with Wvdial or Kppp and with a couple of slips connected to the ISP server. I have placed 2 IP's for the ISP (AT&T worldnet) in the DNS configuration and created a file /etc/resolv.conf in /etc The connection to the ISP remains open and I can see "something" is happening with the browser "resolving (name of site)" then a notice "cannot find Site" This sounds like a DNS problem but I can't find the error. Help! to a very simple problem I'm sure but one that's slowly sending me over the edge

does ur isp give u static dns names or are they issued when you connect

AT&T gives two nameservers each with a unique IP. Looking at /var/log/messages it appears this is changed to dynamic in usual fashion once logged on. Is there an SSL issue here?

no, you have to put the nameservers in your gateway configuration file that SHOULD solve the problem.

P.S it probably wont coz linux likes to mess people round LOL!

The issue is resolved! When I installed Suse 8.0 and the new Office CD upgrade, I also configured the network card (without any further network setup). With the NIC configured, I couldn't ping my ISP. I removed the NIC configuration and away we went since the ISP then knew "where to go." Stupid me!
