SuSE 7.2 Internet access

Want to add my machine to my existing network. Does any one know a good reference for steps to setting up and testing?

I have static IP address for the Linux box, I need to be able to access it remotely.

Thanks.

This is a little vague. What is your existing network setup?

GiveItAShot 03-18-2003 09:36 AM

Existing setup is basic:

DSL
Static IP
Router
Hub
1 XP & 5 NT machines
1 AS/400

Need to get the new machine exposed to the internet and load tomcat, from there it will be utilized by a Linux person.

I will check out your site.

Thanks.

Well you should be able to just stick the Linux machine behind the router and then forward all the necessary requests from the router to the linux machine. Or you can put the Linux box outside the router and make it a firewall. There are a lot of ways of doing this.

What are you using the Linux machine for exactly? You said remote access so are you just going to use it for ssh and tomcat?

One of my associates has designed a software product that resides on linux and runs on the tomcat server. They don't speak very much english so the task of making this linux system available to them is mine. Once they can access it, they can make any and all necessary changes.

Well what I would do is put the machine behind the router and have the router forward all requests from port 22 to your Linux machine. Then setup ssh so your associates can login securely.
