SuSE 10, Wine, Install Problem
IBM Thinkpad R51
Plenty of processor, RAM, and disk space
OpenSuSE 10 EN 32bit all patched and updated from gwdg.de
Wine 0.9.8 from WineHQ
Winetools from WineHQ
Hi all,
I just moved my laptop from XP to Open Suse 10. Everything is Ok with the exception of my Wine installation. I have to use one piece of software for which there is no linux equivalent. The only emulator that I am permitted to use is Wine so (no CrossoverOffice, VMWare, etc...).
Using Winetools works great for everything except the installation of the Windows Installer. I have hunted and hunted but didn't find anything that helps me solve this problem. I saw similar msi problems but not like this.
I get the error below:
#############################################################
WINEDEBUG="fixme-all" WINEDLLOVERRIDES="" wine ./InstMsiA.exe
wine: could not load L"C:\\windows\\Installer\\InstMsi0\\msiexec.exe" as Win32 binary
waiting for wineservers to exit...
#############################################################
Then it will just hang at waiting for wineservers to exit forever. Well, I didn't wait forever but you get the picture.
Attempts to this point:
- Set every Winblows emulation version with winecfg, then Winetools
- Set dll override to "msi = native" + first step
- Downloaded InstMsiA.exe directly from MS and tried to install manually
- Obviously, wiped out Wine completely and started from scratch
- Wiped out Wine and installed from src tarball rather than an rpm, then Winetools, still no love
- Tried various Googled tutorials, howtos, tips, etc...
Thanks in advance for anything anyone might be able to add.
