SuSE 10.1 & APC PowerChute Network Edition?

Hello all,

I will be installing SuSE 10.1 on two servers of mine shortly. Both of these servers are attached to an APC Smart-UPS DLA3000RM2U UPS. This UPS has a NIC in it allowing it to send out shutdown signals over a LAN, among other things.

However, I might have a problem. According to APC, "The highest version of SuSE that PowerChute Network Shutdown is compatible with is 9.0 so I do not think it will work with 10.1.". That's from APC tech support.

So my question is this. Does anyone know of, or have successful personal experience getting the APC Network Shutdown software to work on SuSE 10.1? Failing that, can anyone think of a reason why it would work on 9.0, but not 10.1? In other words, should I try it anyway even though APC hasn't "validated" it?

Thanks!

Chris

Personally, I think it would be fine. 10.1 isn't that much different from my observation. However, I know servers are a wee bit expensive to fix, so just be careful at first.
My dad is actually a higher-up-ish officer at APC, so I passed the thread along to him and maybe he can get on somebody's case about it.

Pop works at APC? In RI? Nice, I'd appreciate it if he could just get someone to try it before I do. Mine's in a production environment and I'd rather have some info first, if I can get it.

Know what I just found out? APC is being bought by Schneider Electric, which is where MY dad used to work! LOL, holy small-world, Batman!

Anyway, if your dad can find out anything, I'd appreciate it. In the meantime, if anyone else knows, I'll take all the info I can get. Thanks!

Chris
