SURVEY: Which programs, if any, do you install into into your home directory?

I have always installed firefox, mozilla (as it was) and opera into my home directory - ditto for things such as thunderbird when I used to use it. It is easy and simple and I have done it since before firefox 1.0.

It certainly wasn't an original idea of mine - I read it from another user.

I am not only personally interested about how many other linux users do the same thing, I think it might be interesting also for those who provide installation packages such as .deb, .rpm. .tgz etc. to know how many users do it and which programs users decide to put into their home directory.

This relates vaguely to the idea of self-contained application directories.

Thanks.

I have a toolchain for building Windoze executables installed in my $HOME. I usually use my $HOME to work out the build process and test the installation of packages I haven't installed before. Otherwise, everything is installed in the /usr or /opt hierarchy.
