successful config SER w/ MySQL hints?

Has any one configured SER w/ Authentication using MySQL successfully? I have yet to find a tutorial that will get you up and running.

yum install ser
yum install ser-mysql

gets everything installed, but I cant get any thing more than a vanilla version of SER (no authentication, no mysql) to work.
