su - root and TMOUT

RHEL 4.5

I have TMOUT=900 set in /etc/profile file.

It works for logins, it works when I login as root.

But it doesn't work if I su - root from another account. In this case, the session stays open and logged in (via console).

su root has produced logouts, but a recent test it did not, so this one seesm shaky.

How do I address these issues?

Add TMOUT=900 to /root/.bashrc or .bash_profile?

Thanks. Sean.

Depending on the used shell you have a choice of adding it to system-wide resources in /etc (or /etc/profile.d) or a personal resource file. Setting it in both also can't harm things. If you don't want people tampering with it I'd add it to a system-wide resource file.
