Stupid TMZ videos won't play on Ubuntu 8.04 64
I can become a hero if I can figure out how to make those stupid videos play from TMZ on a Ubuntu 8.04 64 bit. Have installed adobe flash without any luck. Is this a 32 vs 64 bit problem with the only solution getting rid of 64 Firefox and re-installing a 32 Firefox?
They play fine on a 64 Suse 11 installation from a 64 Firefox.
Newbie confused...again.

I can't even touch anything flash with my 64 bit debian. There are a few solutions... but they all are a pain in the a$$. I really wish someone (achem... adobe...) would spend some time working on a 64 bit solution for this. It is 2008 and 64 bit OS is here to stay.
Do any other flash videos (ie: youtube) work?
what does firefox show when you type in the address bar?

You probably can download and play flash movies using wine + windows flash player (debug standalone flash "projector"). BUt that won't make them visible in browser.

Unfortunately even now in late 2008 there are problems with 64 bit plugins with FireFox.
Here is a link to MozDev.org which will give you the available workarounds at this time.

I downloaded all the Ubumtu updates this a.m. and behold...flash is now working from TMZ. I have no idea what was changed.
note: Youtube and others were working beautifully prior to updates and continue to do so. TMZ seemed to be the only hiccup.
Thanks for all the input.....didn't realize this was widespread.

Sorry...I spoke too soon.
While TMZ videos and YouTube work just fine.....I find that videos from CNN, NBC, CBS etc will not work as before the 'updates.' Go figure.

After a 2nd re-start things are loverly.
After updates from Ubuntu...they requested a re-start...which I did. Assumed that would be the only re-start needed...wrong. When I found that TMZ and Youtube played fine but videos from CNN, MSNBC, ABC etc did not..I, in desperation, decided to re-start the system ONE MORE time. It worked.
Oh...the Linux learning curve....I've been at it now for 3-4 months and find crossing new Linux frontiers is beginning to be fun. Sorry if I've taken up too much space here but a 70 year old geezer..with too much time on his hands...is having a ball.
