streamzap remote control - lirc & controlling the desktop

Hi all,

I'm running kubuntu and have got lirc up and running with xine/mplayer and have set up a video sender to send the signal to another room (from the study).

I'm looking for someway to control my desktop from this other room through the use of the video sender. Is there some way I can configure the remote control to perform specific tasks.

the main task I'm looking for is to shut down the computer using the remote control (so I dont have to get out of my bed to do so)

Any ideas, I've been lookign for an hour or so and will continue for a while. I'd appreciate any help

thanks
