Streaming videos to listening hosts.

Hi, it's kind of double post, but i think this title will be more suitable.
The other thread is here :
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...d.php?t=557377

The problem:

I need to send videos to "passive" hosts. Users on these hosts don't have to click to see videos.
They must appear automagically.
And the "master" PC must have the control over pause, forward, rewind etc...

I tested some tricks around, but nothing satisfying yet.

Depends what you mean by 'passive'. VLC (www.videolan.org) will stream a video to another instance of VLC running on a different machine. The picture on the client certainly stops, rewinds, starts under the control of the server.

But the client VLC has to be running in the first place, so the recipient is not entirely passive. What extra functionality do you want?

It's not a problem to have an already launched vlc. The problem is when the master push play to the video, the slave have to push play too in order to watch this video. I'd like to have the vlc listening in continuous if a stream is coming, and if yes, then just display it.

I had some advice. The idea is to make a script which listen on a specific network port on the station's ethernet cards. And when packets arrives, then the vlc is launched.
