When I go this website http://www.coasttocoastam.com/ and click on the link for last nights show and select the realplayer version. I get this page that pops up stream.cgi (audio/x-pn-rea...

it buffers and then it does play.....

But in the past I've always had realplayer come up and do it's thing.
I can then browse around and hear it.

This thing launches a big page...it looks like it's playing it from Firefox instead of realplayer.

I'll attach a screen shot and hope you can view it..opps, I see I can't do attachments here..

Anybody know what I can do to make it load in Realplayer by default?

First check to see if RealPlayer is still installed. If you upgraded, it may no longer be there.

Secondly, check your plugin settings. Firefox can't play RealMedia by default. Instead, it must use part of another program to do that. For RealMedia, possible plugins include RealPlayer's own plugin, mplayerplug-in, and VLC plugin. If you don't want Firefox to play the stream inside the browser, you must tell it to use the RealPlayer *program* and not a plugin.

To do this, load Firefox and go Edit-->Preferences-->Content. Under "File Types", click Manage. In that screen (Download Actions), select the RealMedia extensions and click "Change Action". Tell it not to use the plugin, but instead to use an external application. When it asks you to select it, navigate to the RealPlayer binary and select it.

However, on Fedora (and maybe on other Linux distros), there are no extensions listed in the Download Actions box. You have to force them to display. To do this, follow the instructions in this useful blog post, Disabling Plugins in Firefox. First try the instructions at the bottom of the post to try and make the plugins show up within the Download Actions box. If that doesn't work, you can either follow the advice there to disable them manually or remove the plugin file. If you opt for the latter, type in the address bar and find the one that is used for playing RealMedia. Then use your package manager to remove the package containing the plugin.

Finally, you may need to change the GNOME/KDE extension settings to use RealPlayer for RealMedia extensions. In GNOME, just download a RealMedia file (or create a blank file and rename the extension). Right-click on it and click Properties. Click the Open With tab and select RealPlayer. I'm not sure how to do this in KDE but the method is probably similar. The KDE Control Centre will also likely have this option somewhere.
