Stratum One server configuration

Currently setting up a stratum 1 server - what is the typical setup for the ntp.conf file. For instance, I understand I need to include

server 127.127.20.0 minpoll 4 maxpoll 4

to read my gps receiver and set the polling parameters. But, is the gps receiver the only device the stratum 1 server gets its time from, or should other stratum 1 servers be listed as peers to help further refine and improve my stratum 1's time?

Any input would be appreciated thank you!

From my understanding peers will sync with each other and the most accurate will be the server. I would not use a network server as a peer but if you have other local stratum 1s then yes.

BTW out of curiosity what is the make / mode of GPS receiver and are you using PPS?

Thank you for the prompt response!

Right, so the doc indicates that the peer server(s) with the best time, will sync their local clocks to it. The other stratum one servers would be outside my network, but remain in the same time zone and geographical vicinity to help lessen the latency, skew. I see your point. I was hoping their were other real life examples of stratum one ntp.conf files out their to refer to.

The gps receiver is a Globalsat BU-353 which connects via usb - I'm not using PPS, from what I read, the PPS should only be enabled if attached via serial port. In regards to mode, I'm not using the 'mode' keyword as a parameter next to

server 127.127.20.0 minpoll 4 maxpoll 4 prefer # gps receiver address

but remember seeing someone using 'mode 0'.
