i've got a problem with alsa 1.06 and kde 3.2.3: after booting the sound modules are all loaded, the sound does actually work, but not as it should! first thing to note, before starting x, alsamixer shows all volumes are up, after starting kde everything is set to silence ...
well, this is not hard to correct, but then comes the next annoying thing: xmms plays all my music too fast! it plays in 1 minute ca. 1,1 minutes music, so it seems there is a conflict with sample rate and synchronisation ... it seems like everything is played at 48 khz, so nearly everything i have is played too fast.
for this nice problem i found as a workaround to reload the corresponding sound modules, but hey - that's extremely annoying, so i'd like to fix this, but i'm out of ideas now, so, help is welcome!
i think your system sound and xmms sound are 2 different issues. for xmms, check out this thread: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...hreadid=194941, which has links to other threads on the same xmms sound issue.
if other audio apps are playing fast too, then you've got a different problem.
i don't really understand the rest of your question. i understand xmms is playing too fast but what exactly is wrong with sound on the rest of your system?
it's not only xmms which plays too fast. i tried mplayer, with the same result (no matter whether i play oggs, mp3s or wavs) - the whole sound system doesn't seem to work right until i reload the sounddriver (via modprobe).
i don't use arts or esd or any other soundserver, just plain alsa, so this problem does not seem not be connected to this (i'm not sure if you mean this when talking about system sound).
the wrongly loaded driver is the main problem i'd like to have fixed - the minor problem is the resetted alsamixer configuration (not fixable with alsactl store), which fortunatly doesn't affect sound quality.
