Strange problem with XMMS
I've installed XMMS (xmms-1.2.7-21.i386.rpm) and the MP3 codecs (xmms-mpg123-1.2.7-21.i386.rpm) and the player works fine when I log in as root.
However, when I log in under a user name, everytime I try and play an mp3, I get no sound and what's more, the (silent) song takes about 10 secs to complete. I installed the rpms from the command line as root, since they wouldn't install under my user name. Any idea what's going wrong? Also, whenever I try and play a song, XMMS puts a copy of the mp3 in my HOME folder .I store all my MP3's in another file.IS it possible to stop it doing this? Cheers Ludwig PS I'm using RH8 but I think the MP3 codecs get round the problem that RH had.Anyway,MP3's play fine as root. |
ok,Just figured this one out.
I had to change to a different output plugin (whatever that is) in preferences. Sorry to have troubled anyone :) Still have problems with the MP3's in the HOME folder though. Ludwig |
Is it a copy of the file or just a link?
|
actually,it's a copy.
It's very strange  |
Strange indeed  xmms works perfectly on all my Linux installs here and doesn't do that.
