Storing Ratings Directly in MP3 Files (not banshee-specific)

(Prologue--I just posted a similar but different question asking if there is a way in Bansheeto store ratings in the MP3 or OGG file. That was a Banshee-specific question. The question below is not.)

Does anybody know of a way to store audio file (MP3 or OGG) ratings inside the audio file directly such that those ratings will show in any/all music players?

Also, does anybody know of applications where this is possible?

PLEASE NOTE, I mean that a tag/metadata should be actually inserted in the OGG or MP3 file itself, not merely in an application's metadata db.

Vorbis comments (used by ogg vorbis and flac) doesnt specify there should be a 'ratings' field. If its included in the comments, it should work with some players though. Never tested it myself, I dont use ratings at all.

Follow-up question:
Does anybody know of any applications that run in Mint which implement this Popularimeter?
Or applications that run in Linux in general?

(For example, on my "other" posting, banshee created its own application-specific tag, not a more-general tag like that mentioned in the id3v2.3.0 spec.)

Sorry I'm not of much use. I might try modding a MP3 file with windows (foobar2000) and try some of the media players I have installed in linux, see if I can figure out any more.

Does anybody know if there is a better tool that does the above that has come out in the last few months maybe?
Going to leave this open (unsolved) for now just in case something better comes along and somebody wants to comment.

Have any of you found a good rating system for MP3's yet? (That are stored in the file making them easily portable?)
