Stop gnome terminal startup notification

This should be a simple question, I'm running Gnome (2.6) and I'm using aterm rather than gnome terminal. But everytime I start a terminal, it gives me some annoying

"starting terminal"

notification in the window list. Plus it turns the cursor into an annoying watch icon. Aterm loads *way* faster than this indicates. I can start an aterm, and exit it, and the "starting
terminal" thing stays on for anouther few seconds.

Obvously this isn't a big issue, but if anybody knows a way to turn it off, I'd be grateful.
