if you installed Server during the initial install, by default redhat won't install X, so that is why you can't startx cause it wasn't installed. usually when running a linux server, most don't use X as it takes resources and whatever else.... its usually not necessary if your using the box as a server. but if you do want X, you can install them from your redhat cd's.

it can be done xf86config

you can still use the box as a server and workstation... you will need to install a few basic x packages like xf86 basic and a few others... look for these on disk1 and play around with them...

did you also install kde or gnome?

no drivers prob needed

what make of modem do yu have?

pull up kppp and run a query on yur modem... it should be detected... now, this is not much of a problem like it was in the past but maybe yu might have a winmodem--

try this if your system does not detetct yur modem... restart into your bios--disable plugnplay aware os and then reboot

if at that time its not detetcted you prob have a winmodem... go to your modems website and dl a linux modem and install it...

if that doesnt work, you may have to go buy another modem... i saw an internal pci us robotics modem tjhat says linux compatible at wal mart for 50$ (56k yada yada) check it out if yu have to

good luck!
