Starting IceWM

I'm having trouble starting IceWM. I successfully installed it but when I type icewm-session from KDE I get this:

[eric@QuickStrike eric]$ icewm-session
icewm-session: using /home/eric/.icewm for private configuration files
icewm-session: wm_pid=14201
IceWM: using /home/eric/.icewm for private configuration files
icewmtray: using /home/eric/.icewm for private configuration files
IceWM: Another window manager already running, exiting...
icewm-session: status=100
[eric@QuickStrike eric]$ icewmbg: using /home/eric/.icewm for private configuration files
icewmbg: using /home/eric/.icewm for private configuration files

It says it's exiting, but it doesn't.

How can I start it?

Thanks.

The basic problem is that you can't have two graphical environments running at the same time. Since you already have KDE running, you're not going to be able to run IceWM until you shut down KDE.

You'll need to supply more details about how you get into KDE in the first place. Do you log into a graphical environment or do you log into a console and then use startx to get into KDE?

I use startx to get into KDE. I haven't been able to get X to start with IceWM, but I've only tried switchdesk.

Is there a way to start X without a window manager?

If you're using startx, you need to edit your ~/.xinitrc file. Somewhere near the end you should see a line that starts kde. Comment that out and replace it with your icewm-session command. Then the next time you startx, you should get IceWM running instead of KDE.

I don't have a .xinitrc, but I changed the line in .Xclients-default and I got IceWM started. Now I just need to find out how to get some programs on the menu.....
