starting firefox
 

every time i start up firefox i get a message about it being a text file and asking if i want to view it or run it as an executable file. How do i make it just run without it asking me what to do every time?

I'm just guessing since I have no experience with Foxfire. But, I suggest you look to find a config file someplace for it and then see if there is any info on the config set up that will relate to the problem. Same may go for a RC (Run Command) file. Hope this helps.

How do you launch it?

You should be able to create a launcher if to launch it with the press of an icon or a button. This is pretty self-explainatory in Gnome (right-click the panel and add a new launcher, point it to the "fluxbox" script) and I expect it to be at least as easy in KDE. In XFCE4, Fluxbox and so on, create a new menu entry pointing to the "firefox" script.

In KDE simply drag the shell script firefox icon from the extracted directory onto your desktop and click

"link here"

if you got the tar.gz...you have to untar it, then cd into the firefox directory it creates and run ./configure, then when you click on the firefox script in the file, it will launch firefox...i haven't figured out how to create an icon on the desktop yet...i tried the drag and drop method...but it loses the path that way...
