Squirrel Mail How to. (distro mandrake 9.2)

I am new to linux, I used PC most of the time with Winxp,Win2000,Win98, I have figured out some linux commands and knows that /bin is essentially for binary files, /dev is were the device files, /etc is where the configuration files and so on and so forth.but i cannot say "hey i know linux" so i put myself as a newbie., My problem is how to run squirrelmail in my mandrake 9.2, ive tried finding some manuals on how to do it, but i am lost theres thousands of them. So i am trying my luck in here if there is a kind soul who knows how to do it and kind enough to walk me through .

Before Squirrelmail....

I am a newbie,too! DigitalRide.

However,I can give you some instructions before you can taste the sweet of Squirrelmail.Squirrelmail,I think you have realized that,is a web-mail software for you to use IMAP to receive your e-mail anywhere. Before you install Squirrelmail, you have to install a MTA<--which stands for Mail Transfer Agent.e.g.Postfix (My favourite)/Sendmail (Complicated MTA)/Qmail and so forth.Pick one of them and install it (<--And google it if you don't know how). After you installed MTA,you can install Squirrelmail and I'll teach you how.

Now, I'm the first to admit that I'm also a newbie but aren't you forgetting an imap server?

Also, you'll need apache and php (4.3 or higher I think).

Yeah,forget all the piecemeal

wijnands, you have complemented all the components which need for Squirrelmail.

By the way,it's not "very easy" to set up whole things,in my expereince.Lots of failures & disappointment.

Only log file can tell the truth.Remember that.

Hmm... I dunno, I've had few problems to get squirrel to work, as long as the other services work properly it's not that difficult.

And yes, the log files. I tend to keep a tail -f on the relevant ones whenever I do work something on my server that's new to me.
