Splitting AVI files

I've completed a pretty nice encode of "The Deer Hunter" and would like to spread it across 3 800MB disks.

The problem is, I can't get mencoder to do the business.

I've looked around and tried the suggestions I found here:

http://zebra.fh-weingarten.de/~maxi/.../msg00808.html

But the -ss option won't work. It just starts from the beginning of the avi and not from the -ss value (about an hour into the film).

The overall file size is just over 2.3GB - is this causing the problem?

I've installed avidemux, but it complains that there is no index for the film (I also read that mencoder doesn't produce indexes for films bigger than 2GB). Can anyone suggest a way to do this?

I'd hate to lose this after working so hard to get a good copy.

Thanks

mencoder does produce indexes for over 2GB ive got to do 3.8GB before but it seems to struggle after that. you need to make sure you compiled it with large file support though. then avidemux should work you could also try avisplit its part of transcode but ive never used it myself.

Kev,

Can I assume it's just a case of recompiling mplayer with:

./configure --enable-largefiles

Not at my machine (am at work) so just wanted to check.

Thanks

Thanks. Sounds good.

I tried the gui, but that bombed. Not really bother. I like the command line.

Really appreciate your help.
