Sound Sync in OpenGL programs

This problem has been hounding me for a while. If anyone knows how to fix it, well, you're my new hero.

When I run OpenGL applications, I have a problem where the sound is about a second behind the graphics. This seems to happen only in OpenGL applications--Tuxracer, Supertux, and GL-117 to name a few. Take Tuxracer for example: I run over the fish, I hear the pop a second later. Movie applications like XINE are perfectly synced, as are almost all other games and applications I've tried. But these OpenGL games are killing me.

I'm running Fedora Core 4, kernel 2.6.12-1.1447. My video card is an NVIDIA GeForce MX 4000, my soundcard (if that matters) is a SoundBlaster Live. I have updated the kernel with Livna's NVIDIA kernel module and NVIDIA-GLX mod.

I'm not sure what other information I need to post. I eagerly await your help.

Thank you.

Which desktop are you using? With KDE go into control center and turn off the sound sytem(I am assuming gnome has something similar). It sounds like you have a sound server(arts or esound) getting in the way. Which will delay Alsa output in GL apps.

Sweet, holy mother of mercy, it worked. Thank you. Taking someone else's suggestion, I had changed the sound system to ALSA. Turning the whole thing off never occurred to me.

So here's the question. If the sound system is off, why does everything still have sound? Games, XMMS, Mplayer, you name it.

Once again, thank you very much.

Beacuase all those items are using alsa directly and not through a sound server.
Only things that need the particular sound server will complain or not work.
example....Kde System sounds

Glad to hear it worked
