Sound problems in fluxbox

Heya'll! I've been reading on this site for a while now and i finally got a question i think no one asked before...

I've decided to move from KDE (3.2.3) to fluxbox (new test version 9.something), the problem is that i get crappy sound quality in fluxbox and in fluxbox only.
I use Slackware 10 and XMMS.

Oh and i only get the problem when listening to heavy metal...

Interesting, what output plug-in do you use in XMMS? See preferences for that and try changing it to ALSA. Also, try doing 'alsamixer' and maybe lowering volume (also in XMMS). I found that you can usually overload the volume easily in linux.
